Country artist Brandon Davis was hit head on by a distracted driver. Read his story below.
Brandon wrote an inspiring song about his wreck and the loving support of his wonderful wife.
"The driver was distracted and came over into oncoming traffic, ran a red light and hit me head on while I was stopped at a red light . When I was hit, I had 3 young children at home and my wife was pregnant with our 4th. My wife found out about my wreck via Facebook and news coverage but did not realize it was me until my boss called to tell her I hadn’t made it to work. It had been over 2 hours since my wreck and she called every hospital she could with no answers. She recalls calling my best friend I had worked out with that morning after realizing I never made it to work after the gym and broke down as she told him that she knew the wreck had to be me and that she thought the wreck must had been fatal for her to have not heard anything yet. A few minutes later I was finally conscious enough to call her and let her know where I was . I remember her not being able to talk and all I heard through muffled cries was “I thought you were dead”. She dropped the kids off with her mom and rushed to the hospital where I was . As soon as she arrived they took me back for an exploratory scope. I felt a little sore but nothing drastic so I didn’t expect the scan to show anything and expected to be released later that day just a little bruised up . During my surgery the doctor brought scans out to my wife that showed several lacerations to my liver , four holes in my small intestine and a ruptured colon . They told her if they didn’t operate immediately I wouldn’t make it through the night . I spent 5 days in the hospital recovering and she never left my side, even 20 weeks pregnant sleeping on a hospital couch . Once home it took weeks before I could even stand up straight . I couldn’t even pick my kids up for a month . I remember asking God why for awhile and then realizing that God had a plan for my life and that my life could have ended that day. I asked my wife “how can I tell my kids to chase their dreams if I’m not chasing mine?” And this sparked something in me that made me want to put everything I had into my dream of becoming a singer/songwriter. While I still struggle with some of the physical aftermath of the car accident today, nearly 3 years later, I am grateful to have this second chance at life."
